Review, Rename, Reclaim
Develop a unified sub-brand for the Council's anti-racism initiatives. To design a creative look and feel for the communications that relate to the renaming of streets, buildings and public spaces named after people with links to African enslavement and colonialism.

"We’d really like the review to capture people’s imagination and make them want to be involved and the correct branding is vitally important - so it feels cohesive, creative and not too corporate."
- Cllr Anntoinette Bramble
Research
A collection of moodboards created to showcase research into the themes covering the project.
Review: Undiscovered stories, Inspirational, Anti-racism, Activism

Findings
The linch pin of this conversation is how Britiain chooses to mark it’s history in the public domain. I wanted to focus on how to visually represent a sense of ‘What next?’ in communications materials, as opposed to imagery of the past, or protest imagery, as this is exactly what people are campaining against. People want to see positive and inspirational marks in their environment. I believed that because this is an issue centred around colour, that the way forward should be using colour in a more prominent way.
I developed a new skintone colour palette for the brand guidelines and used this as a means to communicate our solidarity with the black community, without compromise.
Skintone Research
I selected a colour pallette from Angélica Dass's project, Humanæ, with photographs from nearly 4,500 volunteers worldwide to document the true diversity of human skin tones, challenging traditional racial labels like "white" or "black." Each portrait's background is matched to the subject's nose color using the neutral Pantone® color system, emphasizing our unique and diverse humanity without selection based on background or label.

Pattern Use
Although many graphics and scenes were depicted in the various drafts presented, it was decided that as the logo marque was to be the most prominent design feature, it was best to use a simple culturally relevant pattern to accompany it. The circle collection has been used mostly to frame text and to display the various shades of the new colour palette. The circles in themselves represent the individual but when brought together to display a sphere, it can represent the community.
